چکیده

A sentence describing a spatial relationship includes at least two objects: a located object and a reference object. However, when we indicate a located object with respect to a reference object using a spatial term, the scene usually contains extra objects that may look like the located or reference object in some cases. What role do such extra objects play on the apprehension of spatial terms? In this study, we examined whether the presence of an extra object like a located object changed the overall acceptability distribution of a projective spatial term in a given space. We conducted Experiment 1 with the acceptability-rating judgment similar to the task used in previous studies (Hayward & Tarr, 1995; Logan & Sadler, 1996). Then, Experiment 2 examined whether the presence of the extra object changed the acceptability distribution using the paired comparison method.

Using spatial terms to select an object.

Our interactions with the world often involve selecting one object from a cluttered array of objects. One way to accomplish this is with language. For example, spatial terms, such as above, guide selection by specifying the position of one object (the located object) with respect to a second object (the reference object). Most of the work on the apprehension of spatial terms has examined displa...

Gorenstein projective objects in Abelian categories

Let $mathcal {A}$ be an abelian category with enough projective objects and $mathcal {X}$ be a full subcategory of $mathcal {A}$. We define Gorenstein projective objects with respect to $mathcal {X}$ and $mathcal{Y}_{mathcal{X}}$, respectively, where $mathcal{Y}_{mathcal{X}}$=${ Yin Ch(mathcal {A})| Y$ is acyclic and $Z_{n}Yinmathcal{X}}$. We point out that under certain hypotheses, these two G...

Kinematics and Dynamics of two Cooperating Robots in Spatial Moving of an Object

The kinematics and dynamics of two industrial cooperating robots are presented in this paper. The NOC (natural orthogonal complement) method is used to derive the dynamical equations for the motion of two cooperating robots. The joint torques of the two robots are determined based on the optimization techniques in order to obtain unique solution for joint torques. To this end, minimizing the cr...

The Impact of Doing Problem-Solving Tasks on Willingness to Communicate, Self-perceived Communication Competence, and Communication Apprehension among Iranian EFL Learners

Willingness to communicate (WTC) plays a central role in learning a second/foreign language. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of doing problem-solving task on learners’ WTC in English. To fulfill the purpose of the study, 61 pre-intermediate learners were chosen by means of administrating a placement test. Learners were pretested through three scales of WTC and its two ...

Analysis of the effect of spatial arrangement on the level of acoustic comfort in contemporary apartment housing units (Case study: Apartment housing in Tabriz)

Introduction: What is neglected by designers and even users in today's housing, especially apartment housing in Iranian cities, are various aspects of physical comfort, including sound comfort. Noise is defined as unwanted noise, in other words, extra noise is an annoyance in the living and working environment. This ambient noise should be controlled as much as possible and reduced to an accep...
